Greece's general strike has gathered more than 50,000 people in front of the parliament building. Protesters are against Alexis Tsipras's government measures of increasing the retirement age and the social security contributions.

The proposed changes are part of the new Greek rescue program that would raise the worker's contributions to social security. The international creditors keep pressuring the Greek government to approve the reform measures so to ensure the viability of the Greek pension system.

According to the Greek police, the most violent rioters causing the disturbs are a group of anarchists that refused to disperse even when tear gas was being thrown at them. The main clashes between the police and the protesters took place in front of the Greek parliament and in the surrounding gardens and squares.
